"The Beatles’ Rare Demo Recording Set to Release This Summer"

"The Beatles’ Rare Demo Recording Set to Release This Summer"

A rare and previously unheard Beatles demo, recorded in January 1962 during their audition at Decca Studios in London, has been discovered in Vancouver, Canada. This 15-track reel-to-reel tape, unearthed by Rob Frith, owner of Neptoon Records, was initially thought to be a bootleg but is now recognized as an authentic piece of Beatles history.

Discovery and Significance

The tape features early versions of songs such as "The Sheik of Araby" and "Money (That's What I Want)," showcasing the band's raw talent before they secured a record deal. The provenance of the tape traces back to Jack Herschorn, a former record label owner who declined to release it in the 1970s due to ethical concerns. Herschorn had received the tape from a London producer who had worked with the Beatles during their Decca audition. The recording was subsequently stored and remained largely forgotten until its rediscovery by Frith.

Potential Release Plans

While there is no official announcement regarding the release of the demo, Frith has expressed interest in sharing the recording with the public. He has suggested the possibility of hosting a listening event at Neptoon Records, with proceeds benefiting a charitable cause. Given the tape's historical significance, there is speculation that it may be released as part of a special edition or box set, similar to previous Beatles archival projects.
